Jixi is a wonderful city in the southeast of Heilongjiang Province, China. It lies on the upper reaches of the Muleng River, which flows into the Ussuri River. Jixi is surrounded by mountains and forests, and has abundant natural resources such as coal, iron, graphite, fluorite, and limestone. Jixi is famous for its coal industry, which produces high-quality coal for coking and chemical use. Jixi also has other industries such as electric power, construction materials, machinery, and chemicals. Jixi is a major timber processing center, and uses a lot of wood for its mines. Jixi has a modern railway network that connects it with other cities in China and Russia. Jixi was once a remote wilderness until coal was discovered there in 1909. It became a county in 1941, a city in 1956, and now has a population of over one million people. Jixi is a dynamic and prosperous city with a bright future. A crater on asteroid 253 Mathilde was named after this amazing city.
