According to the legend 1200 years ago, a group of workers who extracted salt from sea water came down to Yangpu Peninsular from Fujian province and discovered new methods of making salt by chance. Then they made a groundbreaking achievement by drilling rocks to make containers for sea water and exposing them under the sun. The millennium ancient salt fields are divided into the ancient salt field of Xinying Bay in Yangpu Peninsula and the ancient salt field of Yanding Village, E’man Town. The Yangpu millennium ancient salt field is in total area of 750 mu, and has ore than 7300 different patterns of inkstone-shape salt trough, and annual output of 500 tons. The Yanding Village Millennium Ancient Salt Field is in area of at least 1,000 mu, with annual output of 800 tons.
