Nanhua Temple

Nanhua Temple (南华寺 Nánhuá Sì; 南华禅寺 Nánhuá Chánsì), Qujiang District (曲江区) (Special express buses to the temple are available from the Shaoguan East Railway Station. If arriving at Shaoguan Railway Station, take bus no. 23. You can also get there via bus no. 309, which departs from the Shaoguan South Bus Station), ☏ +86 751-6501014. 8AM-5PM. The former temple of Huineng (the sixth patriarch of Zen Buddhism) and the location of his mummified remains. As such, the temple is an important pilgrimage site for practitioners of Zen Buddhism.

Xiaozhou Village

Xiaozhou Village (小洲村). The village is a short taxi ride from University City. Some travelers describe this district as full of historical buildings, fruit orchards and canals and relate that, in recent years, this has become artists' haven. Others report that recent development has obliterated all traces of the village and that the district is a typical industrial suburb adjoining a huge field used as an outdoor latrine.

Dinghu Mountain

(Dinghushan, 鼎湖山). A nature reserve about 20 kilometers northeast of the city. Has nice walking paths through temples, trees, waterfalls and pools. Beware, it can be packed on holidays. To get there you can take the local bus no. 15 from Tianning rd. (天宁路) - the bus heading south.

Seven Star Crags Park

(七星岩公园; Qī​xīng​yán GongYuan​; Qixingyan Garden). Seven rocky peaks (crags) sit here in the middle of a beautiful lake. The arrangement of the peaks resembles the Big Dipper constellation, so the crags are known as the Seven Star Crags, and the lake as Star Lake. The site is sometimes known as "little Guilin" due to its resemblance to the spectacular Guilin scenery. There are also some temples and pagodas in the park. Located just north of downtown Zhaoqing.

Yetian Ancient Village

Yetian Ancient Village aims to give visitors a glimpse into the culture and local customs of the Li and Miao people of Hainan Island. There are live demonstrations of traditional arts and crafts such as weaving, pottery and the process of creating silver jewelry, as well as regular performances of folk songs and bamboo dances. For anyone interested in the traditional culture of China’s ethnic minorities a trip to Yetian Ancient Village is a must!
